Skin Tags in Children

Anybody of any age can get a skin tags.  This includes people who are of any age from just recently born to 100 years of age.  Newborn babies can get skin tags on their ears.  They have a tendency that in inherited to develop these polyps due to a disease know as Trecher-Collins Syndrome which causes the young baby to develop these tags in front of their ears.  Skin tags can also be created during a young child's development.  This excess skin grows together near a babies' ear.  It has been suggested that this is due to the friction a baby experiences while going through the birth canal.  Babies that are normal and healthy also experience the growth of skin tags.  They develop as hymenal papules.  These skin tags will dry up during the first two months of life.   Babies that are heavy can develop these skin tags in the area of the neck.  A very young child can get skin tags on the eyelashes or any place that can be rubbed even by one's fingers.  They might also develop skin tags under their underarms or on their neck.  Children can get skin tags under the arms or any place they might sweat while playing sports.
