Decades ago people experimented with skin whitening products, and that was okay: Our knowledge base was still very limited concerning skin whitening products and the science was still in its infancy. But then disaster struck. Many are still alive today who live with the scars. Out went mercury and hydroquinone as the hot skin brightening ingredients in skin care products. Or did they?
The fact is that even today, with all the knowledge we have about the cancer causing properties of mercury and hydroquinone many skin whitening creams are still being sold in the stores by unscrupulous businessmen and women who know it very well that they could potentially harm you. These products unfortunately get bought by unsuspecting consumers who use them, sometimes with disastrous consequences.
Even after centuries of using skin lightening treatments the fact remains that safe bleaching solutions that work do not come cheap! You have to invest time, money, or both to achieve that lustrous look you desire.
So it all boils down to this: What do you have more of, time or money? If you have time to spare it is possible to use home remedies, probably in addition to a good skin product from the stores to good effect. But you will need to invest the time to research how to lighten your skin and learn to make your own formulations. Use the internet and word of mouth. In case time is your enemy, then you should go for the solutions abundantly available in the stores; but go for quality! Avoid the temptation to buy cheap skin care products that could eventually harm your precious skin.
